Jonathon Campbell Mills:
No Earth Beneath My Feet

Curation and design for an art exhibition

Jonathon asked me to curate an exhibition for his latest body of work entitled No Earth Beneath my Feet, an exhibition exploring migration, displacement and identity. My role as curator was to find a suitable venue and organise the event, including publicising it and creating an identity and design of all collateral. The outcome was a successful private view attended by over 200 people, which resulted in four paintings being sold that night, followed by a week-long exhibition.

  • “No Earth Beneath My Feet was a big show for me. With video, installation and sculpture it took a huge amount of planning, all down to Suffia. She was a rock, liaising with Centrespace Gallery, checking the space for viability and pushing for premium dates. Suffia curated the show with a sensitivity attuned to the pieces, creating a journey for visitors to get maximum impact and understanding of the messaging around migration, displacement and identity. She arranged for interested collectors to attend and even some refugee charities sent representatives to check us out. In addition to curating, Suffia created all of the marketing assets including printed invitations, posters and packs for visitors to take away. She also handled online communications including social media and selected art and event sites. This is the second show she has curated for me, and all in all it was a great success. It could not have taken place without her wonderful personality and professional management skills. The upshot being an offer of a one-man show in Washington DC. Without a doubt Suffia will also be curating this show too.”
