A local project for an organiser of a small community garden in Kingsdown, Bristol. My friend and client, Bernardita, was frustrated at not having outside space for her family and neighbours to use during lockdown, so cleared a disused piece of land and created a community space in her neighbourhood.

Speakers were invited each month to talk about growing plants and vegetables and the whole community was invited to take part in maintaining the space. I loved the way the community took the identity and interpreted it in various ways, owning it and breathing life into the brand.

My work helped to successfully secure £35K of funding to further enhance the community spaces in the area.

  • “Suffia reflected in her designs the vision for our guerrilla garden in the heart of the social housing buildings in Dove Street. By using the logo in social media and print, we communicated our vision and inspired social housing flat residents to take part. With Suffia’s support we secured £35K to transform a run-down parking lot into basketball and football courts, painting community murals, installing planters and benches and improved residents’ cohesion and wellbeing. Working with Suffia was fun and stimulating. Her innovative and beautiful designs made us feel proud and the wider community took us seriously. Her impeccable delivery was instrumental to make our dream come true. I fully recommend her to succeed in any social enterprise. We won an impact award for the best community connector group of Bristol 2021 by Love Your Park Community Fund, and won the Bristol Young Hero Environmental Award by Community of Purpose.”
